Released on March 15, 2015, To Pimp a Butterfly is Kendrick Lamar’s third studio album and widely regarded as one of the greatest albums ever made. The 16-track project is a jazz-, funk-, and soul-influenced meditation on Black identity, celebrity, and racial injustice in America.
Features include King Kunta, Alright (which became an anthem for the Black Lives Matter movement), The Blacker the Berry, i, These Walls, and the closing epic Mortal Man (which features an imagined interview with Tupac Shakur). Guest performers include George Clinton, Snoop Dogg, Thundercat, and Kamasi Washington.
The album debuted at number one and won the Grammy for Best Rap Album in 2016. Time magazine named it one of the 100 Best Albums of All Time. It stands as one of the most ambitious statements in modern music.
