KOD (2018) — J. Cole
A concept album about addiction, greed, and mental health that broke first-day streaming records.
Released on April 20, 2018, KOD (which Cole said stands for “Kids On Drugs,” “King Overdosed,” and “Kill Our Demons”) is J. Cole’s fifth studio album. The album explores addiction in all its forms — drugs, money, social media, and materialism.
Features include ATM, Kevin’s Heart, KOD, Photograph, and 1985 (a critique of the SoundCloud rap generation). The album features J. Cole’s alter ego “kiLL edward” on several tracks.
KOD broke Apple Music’s first-day streaming record with 64.5 million streams. It debuted at number one and became Cole’s fifth consecutive chart-topper.
